Launch of the Singapore Bicentennial at the Asian Civilisation Museum

The Singapore Bicentennial marks the 200th anniversary of Sir Stamford Raffles’ arrival in Singapore, and looks at the history of Singapore before and after 1819.
The launch of the Singapore Bicentennial took place on 28 January 2019 at the Asian Civilisations Museum. Part of the programme included a short ceremonial segment featuring 50 community representatives, each holding a customised lantern with four bulbs, for a total of 200 lights to symbolise the bicentennial. Called “light-bearers’, they represent a microcosm of the diverse groups that are involved in various bicentennial-related activities – ranging from the ethnic groups, schools, religious institutions, societies and various self-help and volunteer groups. The Guest-of-Honour was Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, who officially launched the Singapore Bicentennial, together with i Light Singapore – Bicentennial Edition by the Urban Redevelopment Authority. With him was the youngest light-bearer, primary 6 student Kayla Choy, who represents the future of the nation.
Kingsmen is honoured to be part of this significant event. Beyond the launch, Kingsmen will be part of the upcoming marquee showcase, The Bicentennial Experience: From Singapore to Singaporean, to be held at Fort Canning Centre and Fort Gate from June to September 2019
